Well Holy Week has come and gone and although I had a good “vacation” I did not get to my blog at all, didn’t really think of it at all. Mostly I moved into Holy Week and prepared spiritually for the resurrection.
We are in Easter now and I have to say the Resurrection truly does bring hope. It is amazing how the season of rejoicing and hope can transform our hearts when we let it. If your experience of Lent/Holy Week/ Easter/ Easter Session is anything like mine, then you know what is coming.
Lent is a time for repenting, truly resolving to sin no more and truly asking for forgiveness of the sins we commit. Holy Week is the most difficult journey for me. The reality that Christ died for me is a difficult reality to face at times. I know what makes Good Friday so real for me, and if you know me well you do too. But then we have Easter.
Easter is where I am now, where we all are when these words are written. Easter is the moment of hope. Each time I lead a Confirmation Retreat that is one message I try and get across, that hope is important that the crucifixion and death of Christ are not just bad events in the life of a good man, but the truest form of sacrifice that leads to the greatest type of hope.
C.S. Lewis got this message across so well in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when he wrote of Aslan “no he is not safe, but he is good.” Christ is not safe he is going to ask the seemingly impossible. He calls us to lives of holiness and eternal life. His is so powerful that he defeated the only enemy common to the entire world, yet so good that even the most profound and senseless suffering is transformed into a message of hope.
For now I sign off with the last words of hope that only Easter can bring.
Christ is Risen! Indeed he is Risen! Alleluia!
